Update on the Internet’s Own HonorH – those who know her IRL have reported that she has been in contact with the US Embassy officials and is in a shelter in her city, safe and accounted for! Despite tsunamis and earthquakes and right bad weather, she has evidently survived, and we are glad.
Ofunato, as it happens, is where my internet friend, reader (and occasional commenter here on the BUMD site) HonorH lives. She posted to her blog about 2 hours before the quake, and has been understandably off-line since. I am dedicating this post to thinking good thoughts for her safe and swift return to the Internet.
How does a “brick and mortar” nation-state go to war against a global multinational corporation? At what point does the world need to start recognizing that companies with more people and money than many small countries might need to be included in something like the UN, and held to many of the same standards?
Today, thirty-three men are being reborn into the light of San Jose, Chile, through a canal 22 inches across and half a mile long. They will remember this second birthday every bit as well as they remember their first ones – probably a lot better, come to think of it.
There are two kinds of people: happy and not. As long as people are working toward happy, not gender, not sexuality, not religion, not race, not money, not weight – nothing else matters.
