I feel like a joke.\u00a0 There\u2019s an old one about a ditsy girl who wakes up in bed the next morning with a strange guy.\u00a0 She sits up, looks at him, and says, \u201cUm, did we\u2026\u00a0 You know?\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah,\u201d he says, \u201cwe did.\u00a0 You don\u2019t remember?\u201d\u00a0
\n\u201cNo, sorry, must have had too much to drink.\u00a0 Um, you don\u2019t have HIV or syphilis, do you?\u201d
\n\u201cWhat?\u00a0 No, of course not!\u201d
\n\u201cOh thank goodness.\u00a0 I\u2019d sure hate to get those again.\u201d<\/p>\n
I know just how she feels \u2013 you hate to always be coming down with the same old stuff.\u00a0 That\u2019s why I\u2019m so excited to finally have pneumonia!\u00a0<\/p>\n
This started out as a sore throat and slight fever more than a week ago.\u00a0 I stayed home and drank lots of water, and I still felt like I\u2019d been hit by a truck.\u00a0 When a week went by and I was getting worse instead of better, and the sore throat had turned into a cough, and the cough had started including a nice raspy wheezing sound that would have been great at Halloween parties, I went to the doctor.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This was yesterday.\u00a0 He prescribed an antibiotic, which I started right away.\u00a0 I went to bed with cough medicine, antibiotics, and medicine for my wheezing chest, expecting to wake up feeling good, refreshed, and ready for a new start on the week, if not on life.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Instead, I woke up with a full-body rash from an apparent allergy to the damn antibiotic.\u00a0 I itch all over, plus I\u2019m still coughing.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Number One Son, all of 10 years old, offered some heartfelt sentiments this morning.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Number One Son:\u00a0 \u201cYou have pneumonia , Daddy?\u201d\u00a0
\nBUMD:\u00a0 \u201cYes son, I do, that\u2019s why the Dr. gave me antibiotics.\u00a0 The only problem is that the medicine is giving me hives.\u201d
\nNOS:\u00a0 \u201cYou have hives, Daddy?\u201d\u00a0
\nBUMD:\u00a0 \u201cYes, all over.\u201d\u00a0
\nNOS:\u00a0 \u201cDaddy, if you die, I\u2019ll probably go on anti-depressants.\u201d<\/p>\n
That may be the nicest thing he\u2019s said to me in a long time.\u00a0 I\u2019ll take it.\u00a0<\/p>\n
