{"id":1166,"date":"2011-03-01T04:21:22","date_gmt":"2011-03-01T08:21:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.biguglymandoll.com\/?p=1166"},"modified":"2011-03-01T04:21:22","modified_gmt":"2011-03-01T08:21:22","slug":"not-all-the-days-are-filled-with-joy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.biguglymandoll.com\/?p=1166","title":{"rendered":"Not all the days are filled with joy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yesterday was just annoying.\u00a0 The whole damn day was irritating.\u00a0 I was going to post a nice shiny recap of the month, but the day got away from me, and I&#8217;m ranting instead.\u00a0 Mondays, bah.<\/p>\n<p>It started with getting up, which wasn\u2019t very nice, and then rolled into showering, which you would think would have some satisfying naked bits.\u00a0 But you would be wrong.\u00a0 The water from the shower just fell from the nozzle limp and as bored as a teenager at a wedding, and it fell at just that never-quite-as-hot-as-you-wanted temperature, vacillating between tepid and scalding.\u00a0 A Rahm Emanuel of showers.\u00a0 I got out as soon as I could.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I woke the kids up after that, and at 8, 10, and tweenager you can imagine what a fun job <strong>that<\/strong> is.\u00a0 Like little unlit bulbs, they were all simply delighted to arise and face the day.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Dropping the younger two off at their respective schools reminded me of the article I read recently that explained in no uncertain terms that it\u2019s always the moms who deal with the schools, which annoyed the holy crap out of me.\u00a0 (It\u2019s true, all of the crap in me that was holy has now gone.\u00a0 I am left only with damned crap, which I suppose comes as a surprised to no one at all.)\u00a0 Besides, if the memory of that bit wasn\u2019t enough to chafe my delicate psyche, getting through two elementary school Kiss-n-Rides is enough to get Francis of Assisi to think seriously about gun laws and waiting periods.\u00a0 How hard is it to move forward 20 feet toward the entrance when there are no fewer than four people waving you forward?\u00a0 The 2nd Grader gets it, but not the driver.\u00a0 And yes, it was a guy.<\/p>\n<p>Eventually I made it to the office, where I asked one of the\u00a0clients if they wanted me and two of my co-workers to dial into our standing 10am meeting, or to drive over and attend in person.\u00a0 \u201cPlease attend the 10am in person.\u201d\u00a0 So we trundle over to the client\u2019s building at 3 minutes before 10, nod hello as we walk past the client\u2019s open office door where they\u2019re talking about the project, and wait in the conference area.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>For 22 minutes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOK, let\u2019s get started.\u201d\u00a0 We were done in 8 minutes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m just sayin&#8217;, is all.<\/p>\n<p>On the way back we stopped at Dunkin Donuts, which is not, in fact, Starbucks.\u00a0 If you haven\u2019t had their coffee, imagine the most mundane-tasting coffee you\u2019ve ever had from McDonalds, then make it hotter.\u00a0 No no, hotter than that.\u00a0 To say I\u2019m not a fan is an understatement.\u00a0 One of my co-workers picked up a dozen holes with jelly in them, which was decidedly a high point of the day \u2013 which was dashed when I tried one when we got back to the office and found that by \u201cjelly in them\u201d what they meant was \u201cjelly near them\u201d and not, you know, jelly filled.\u00a0 Still, nice of her.<\/p>\n<p>The day did not get better.\u00a0 Unrequited emails went unanswered, phones didn\u2019t ring, and another co-worker tried to warm up his lunch in the toaster.\u00a0 Which was a problem, since he was having soup.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I wish I were making this up.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The high point of the day was eating dinner in front of the television watching clips of old \u201cWhose Line is it Anyway\u201d skits.\u00a0 Oh, that Ryan Stiles!\u00a0 He\u2019s so tall and dreamy.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The kids went to bed as cheerfully as they got up, which is saying something, and rather than do anything that could be accidently productive, so did I.\u00a0 Monday.\u00a0 You can have it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Now with that irritating Monday 3 hours behind me, I can put it in perspective.\u00a0 I can recast yesterday in my mind, find the good parts and \u2026\u00a0 Nah.\u00a0 It sucked.\u00a0 Hopefully the week gets better, for me and for you, Gentle Reader.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Monday.
