Of Meteors and Voting

Will you be able to look yourself in the eye knowing that you voted for a party that holds monochromatic monotheism in higher regard than modern medicine, a party that puts faith before fact, a party that will sideline science, social justice, and STEM schools because stem cell research might offend their narrow notion of God?

Chicago and Back

Like the Dalai Lama, I always want them to make me one with everything, and they did. Oh, yes they did. The fries go on your dog, in your bun, all over the place. The onions, the relish, the peppers – and just a damn good hot dog. Plus the fries were outstanding. Also, don’t install windshield wipers in the dark.

Pleasant Surprise

The only thing I’d actually planned this weekend was my 10K hike – wonderfully restorative for those who might have had an extra Beaujolais the previous evening.

A Study in August: The End

There’s a Museum of Rural Life in rural Maryland on the Eastern Shore; hard to imagine why they’d need one. On the Eastern Shore of Virgina, you can’t throw a rock 10 feet without hitting 2 tobacco discount outlets and a fireworks store. Closer to the shore, the signs start to morph – “Tobacco, Fireworks, and Clams!” We also proved that if you drive far enough in any one direction in this country, you’ll eventually find a Walmart.

The mashup takes tales written for children in the 1890s and finally published in 1902, and aims for the intersection of these stories with the events of 1915, when Kipling’s son died in the Battle of Loos, France, in WWI.
